How to make your next conference call free of charge

Conference calling has swelled in popularity over recent years, and consequently become easier and easier to use. It’s probable that holding or participating in a teleconference has become almost an everyday activity – if it hasn’t maybe it should very soon – so that you can make better informed decisions in the work that you do. Some conference call bridges advertise themselves as free, despite coming with premium rate call charges or other hidden costs. But, don’t be disheartened, this does not mean there is no such thing as a free conference call. There certainly is, so make sure you’re doing all the things you should be to avoid incurring unnecessary costs.

Conference calling for the environmentally friendly business

We all know how detrimental frequent travel can be for our planet, emitting greenhouse gases and increasing our carbon footprint. In fact, in 2010, transport accounted for a reported 39% of energy consumption in the UK – a massive proportion. Of this, a huge 27% of energy consumption was made up from the emissions of road transportation. The sheer volume of cars at rush hour makes this statistic less surprising for all those of us who commute to work daily and are familiar with the congestion. But what if we could reduce, or completely eliminate, our commute? Conference calling offers one ideal way to do this, and to reduce our negative impact upon the environment.

With the rise of technology, we have seen the amount of tools available to businesses soar over recent years. Three of our main priorities in the business world are communication, efficiency, and financial wisdom. These meet their harmonious combination in the oft-advertised ‘free conference call’. But a concerning proportion of the times that you see this claim, it turns out to be false, costing you and your business money. You have to take care, and read carefully, to ascertain whether your conference calls really are free.

£162,000 back in your pockets!

Following regulatory changes in 2007 which introduced a new number range (03), the Nexbridge team (at the time, Zimo Communications) set about creating a brand new, free voice conference service named WHYPAY? the aim of which was to bring genuine benefits to people dialling into conference rooms from mobile phones. How have we got on and more importantly what are those benefits?

Holding interviews for potential employees can be a time-consuming, stressful and hectic process for all those involved. A practical solution can be found in the use of conference calls. Conference calling – not just for the business environment

You hear the words ‘conference calling‘ and what do you imagine? The phrase evokes a sense of professionalism, formality and efficiency. And yet, since when are multi-person conversations only considered a thing of the business world? We all have friends and relatives scattered around across towns, cities and even seas, and conference calling – particularly completely free conference calling – offers an ideal way to keep in touch.

With WHYPAY? there are absolutely no additional charges incurred by holding a conference call instead of a two-person phone call. This is because the conference call just like a normal two-person call, will be included in your bundled minutes, and if you have none available, it will simply be charged at your standard rate for landlines (01/02 number rates).

To make matters even more straightforward, there is no necessity for any kind of specialist equipment. Your WHYPAY? conference call can be accessed from standard mobile or landline phones, payphones or even services like Skype.

How many people should I invite to a conference call?

As teleconferencing services become increasingly popular, service providers such as WHYPAY? constantly improve on conference calling technology to provide customers with cost effective and efficient services. Many basic conference call services are available free of any charges. These may be ideal for small businesses; however, plans differ amongst providers where the number of participants that may be allowed to dial into a conference call may be limited. WHYPAY? doesn’t limit the number of participants that can make a conference call, meaning the service is still free of charge no matter how big your meetings may be.

Estimating the financial benefits of conference calling

Although teleconferencing services have been around for a while, some companies tend to ignore it in favour of email and chat programs. However, neither email or chat programs can be as beneficial as conference calls. Both forms of communication can be unengaging for busy people, to say the least. For companies that believe in face to face meetings, they can be difficult to co-ordinate, time consuming, and most importantly, very expensive. Travel, accommodation, and other utility expenses for participants that are from out of town can make a big dent in a company’s budget. This is why conference calling is the ideal alternative and has the potential to become a potent business communication tool.

How much should you conference call each week?

Conference calling has helped a number of companies drastically reduce costs on travel and other related expenses that otherwise cut deep into their budgets. A significant reduction in costs and the minuscule expenses involved in teleconferencing services enables companies to hold teleconferences as frequently as required. Conference Call providers like WHYPAY? offer a host of customised and affordable plans, where some calls can be made free. Besides, participants that dial into a 03 number from their mobile can avail of free minutes offered by their mobile network operator. Therefore, many calls can be made at no cost while calls that are charged are priced the same as calls to landlines, typically 01 and 02 numbers.

Many providers offer flexible conference calling plans where you are not required to schedule a call. Calls can be made impromptu, which is useful in the case of emergencies. The cost is only for the duration of the call. There are several pricing options including flat rate billing, toll free per minute billing, and other monthly subscription plans as per the policies of the service provider.
